Detox your Kitchen: 6 of the Best Kitchen Cleaning Products

Your kitchen is probably the messiest room in your house. It gets used multiple times a day and is the canvas for sauces that have splattered, dough that has dropped, eggs that have oozed and potatoes that have plopped.

Cleaning up is part of the cooking process, but isn’t one that many of us enjoy. But with the right products: you can clean up quickly and easily and it won’t seem like so much of a chore.

Here are some of our all-time favourite kitchen cleaning products:

Dishwashing liquid. It does far more than just wash your dishes. Mix 2 cups of water with 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle. Use it on your countertops, stovetops, oven door and other hard surfaces that gather grease.

Baking Soda. It scrubs and exfoliates baked on grime but won’t scratch your countertops (which is especially good for stainless steel surfaces). Make a paste by mixing 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 3 tablespoons of warm water. This is great for cleaning inside your oven too.

White vinegar. Add a cup of white vinegar to 1 litre of warm water. It can be used to clean countertops and splash backs, and can even get lime scale out of the kettle and teapot.

Ammonia. A dash of ammonia in water (not too much ammonia or you’ll have trouble breathing!) is great for getting greasy fingerprints off stainless steel fridge and dishwasher doors and leaves them shiny and sparkling like new.

Borax and Gumption. If you prefer some commercial oomph rather than the home made natural products (but still want to minimise the use of chemicals), these two clean just about anything in your kitchen and are exceptionally good for cleaning the inside of the microwave and the oven.

Having a few magic cleaning products up your sleeve makes cleaning the kitchen a breeze. And once you see your sparkling clean kitchen that smells wonderful, you’ll realise it’s not so much of a chore after all.
