Kitchen design trends for 2017 that you can use today

Kitchen design trends come in and out of fashion. What was popular in the 80s is not so sought after now!

So what kitchen design trends can we expect for 2017? Let’s take a look at some of the colours, layouts and materials that you can start to use right now.

Bright colours are making a comeback. We’re seeing oranges, yellows and blues, combined with a neutral white or grey to balance things out. There will be less wooden décor and claddings and more monochrome colours splashed about. A popular finish for these vibrant colours is a gloss or semi-gloss.

Black is making an appearance, and not just as a feature; but for the entire kitchen. There will be plenty of matt black cabinets, bench tops, appliances; even walls and ceilings. Black and grey kitchens can be offset with some stainless steel and metallic surfaces inspired by the commercial and industrial kitchen look.

Oval shapes are a new trend for the 2017 season. Gone are straight, sharp edges, and instead we’re seeing soft curves and rounded shapes in the form of ovals and oblongs. Combine an oblong shape with a black kitchen and you’re well ahead in the style game!

Kitchen islands have always been apopular choice for their practicality and efficient use of space. Rather than a closed face or breakfast bar with stools, 2017 will bring more open shelf arrangements that allow for decoration and design elements to be on show.

Ceramics and concrete are natural materials that have previously been used for benchtops because of their heat and scratch resistance, however now we are starting to see them being used in cabinet doors and paneling. They create a futuristic and minimal look that we’ll be seeing a lot more of.

Decorative tiles are great for feature walls.Using decorative tiles in small areas of the kitchen can create some flair and interest in an otherwise monotone room. This is a great way to refresh the look of the kitchen without changing much else.
